On the comedy podcast Nerdist, Mel Brooks was interviewed. When asked, he said that “comedy should always speak truth to power, Comedy is the little guy speaking up to authority. Otherwise comedy doesn’t work.”
I think this speaks to why conservative comedy often doesn’t work. Conservatives by definition are for the status quo, they speak for the people currently in power. Trying to make comedy from a place of power just comes off as bulling the little guy.
Thanks for the great show,
Brian
