the problem that Joel Salatin isn’t confronting that is the primary cause of everything he objects to is Capitalism. It goes beyond the food system. Why do we put 1000 pigs in one building? Because the market treats everything the same, whether it’s widgets or life. Everything must be made more efficient to extract a profit that is at least 3% increase over last year’s profit. Everything is treated as an input/output system, including life, and it is bent to the will of the market, everything except executive pay that is. With executives, the owner class, the capitalists, since they own everything, they think they deserve everything they own, so they are never forced to be made more efficient by the market, because the system of Capitalism is founded on private ownership of everything. The CEO doesn’t lose money when his business fails. He gets another business to extract wealth from until it’s drained dry. The ones left behind in factory farming or any business under Capitalism are the pigs living in tighter conditions until slaughter and the humans who eat those pigs.
