The John Fullerton segment on climate change and finance was the best discussion on the issue that I have heard. He said it all and he is right to be pessimistic about our ability to change course. Nations and private companies are not going to give up all the wealth contained in fossil fuels without an extreme amount of public pressure. That public pressure is not likely to exists along side the sophisticated disinformation campaigns created by the fossil fuel interests. I think our only potential saving grace is technology. We have to find an alternative that makes fossil fuels cost prohibitive and obsolete and we need to hurry.

The other technological advancement that I have heard (mostly from conservatives) would be an emission that reversed the effects of green house gases in the atmosphere. I question the science behind that concept, but I have heard it numerous times from rich conservative country club types. The fact that they would propose that solution shows that they are engaging in willful ignorance. They don’t really and truly deny climate change. They just understand that doing something about it would be hard and could possibly hurt their checkbook. They know its real, but they are just praying that the invisible hand of the infallible free market will save them in the end. Proving once and for all that church is just for show and the real God they worship is called money.
